Turbo's blog

October 26, 2009

Turbo is currently out at sea, fattening up on fish, anchovies and other penguin delights. Yum yum yum.

October 19, 2009

Turbo has taken to Bridget, a full-season volunteer, and met her in the study area called the "Seas" for a flipperpat out in the open.

Shockingly, Turbo does not have a mate yet. Some pairs in the colony are already laying eggs, but there's still time for our Turbo... Most females lay eggs mid-October to November. Turbo can still catch up!

Turbo's back! And he's fat! Look out, world, this might be the year that he gets a mate! Or at the very least, gets a field worker to nest with him...

March 25, 2009 (End of 2008-09 Season)

Turbo is very very fat and likes being in his nest sleeping. He's not much interested in us right now.

Turbo continues to visit. He´s gone to sea a couple of times and is now firmly middle-weight. He´s brought over a couple of penguins with him from time to time, but they haven´t taken to us with quite the same enthusiasm as he has.

Turbo just returned yesterday! He was gone exactly one month! He is in good condition (5.25 kg).

October 14, 2008

Turbo is coming and going. He brings us a piece of dried grass before he goes.

Turbo got into a fight yesterday. Eric thinks he won. He was still a little bloody this morning, but seemed glad to see us. He tries to follow us into the field. It´s pretty funny to walk off and have him waddling through crowds of tourists trying to catch us, and us trying to pretend we don´t know he´s there.

September 25, 2008 (Start of 2008-09 Season)

Turbo showed up the morning of Sept 16 and gave a huff in front of the door. He comes and knocks now. He tries to lead us to his nest in the thermometer bush. He seems healthy and happy to see his people.
